Today, I’m simply challenging those who follow me to help me make a difference in the world. Let’s lift someone’s spirits instead of taking things so personally.
When someone snaps at you, grumbles, or is rude, ask yourself, “What wounds might they be hiding?”
There are many walking wounded on this planet, trying to hide their pain.
Doing this helps me see others through a lens of compassion versus a lens of complaint. I don’t accomplish my goal perfectly, but when I do, it completely changes the way I interact with someone. A smile and, “Are you having a bad day?” offered in response to what feels like attack, can melt many protective hearts.
So I wonder if you would do something with me. Let’s start today and carry it throughout the week — considering the invisible wounds an angry person might be hiding, instead of acting in defense. Let’s offer them a surprising dose of compassion instead. With clerks, co-workers, church members, or your own clan — consider the hurts behind their words.
Who knows? You might just make a difference this way. And as an added bonus, regardless of how they react, you will feel happier, lighter, and more fulfilled if you don’t make it about you, but keep it strictly about consideration for someone else. Let’s face it, the deeper the pain, the stronger the anger. I’m calling this The Compassion Challenge. Will you take it? Will you share it? If so, use the hashtags #MakeaDifference and/or #CompassionChallenge
Together, we can change the world one listening ear, one smile, one compassionate response at a time.

Loved your interview with Darren on Coroner’s Talk which I listened to via podcast today. Love that one word mantra. All the best to you.
Thank you for your kind comment, Madeline. If you choose a One Word, I’d love to hear what it is. Such a powerful lens with which to view your place in the world. Blessings to you as well. 😀
