A single word keeps cropping up. Over the past few months, if I turn on the radio I hear it, a character on television uses it, more than one book I’ve read focuses on it. Maybe the reason lies in what I invest my time listening, watching, and reading, but the fact remains, this one word is a definite secret to success. And I’m paying attention.
What is this mystery word? Resolve.
Resolve first came to my attention during a Bible study. I recognized it as a secret to Daniel’s success. No matter what the man faced, he had already resolved his course of action.
But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way. Daniel 1:8 (NIV)
Resolve is defined as a definite or earnest decision, to make up one’s mind, to determine. But, resolve also means to break up or disintegrate, and as any successful person knows, you must break up plenty of fear, insecurity, confusion, and inner-resistance to make a positive change. Remember my writer friend from yesterday’s post?
This is why we need resolve. To decide in advance, to prepare for inevitable attacks, to succeed. Tomorrow, we’ll look at some practical tips to help us resolve. Isn’t it time we disintegrated those things holding us back?
