Some days I don’t feel like doing it. Investing my writing time and talents wisely. On days like this, I’m usually dealing with a challenging personal situation, or I’ve pushed myself to the point of exhaustion. But regardless of the cause, the outcome is the same. I hunch over my keyboard, sipping on a caffeinated beverage, hoping inspiration will fall, like Tinkerbell dusting me with magic words.
But it never happens. However, practical inspiration does make a difference.
Writing is like any other gift. You can have the greatest raw talent ever known to man, but if you don’t hone it into a crafted skill, it will go unnoticed. And you’ll miss the opportunity to bless others.
Our abilities don’t mean much without someone to share with. Because let’s face it, the greatest gift we receive is the ability to pass on good things to others. Whether we make them laugh, thrill their soul with a song, brighten their day through brush strokes, inspire them with a speech, pray for them, or encourage them through written words, sharing our talents gives us purpose. A reason to get out of bed in the morning. Nothing feels as good as seeing someone smile because you made them feel better.
But we can miss the chance to give of ourselves, if we don’t do the initial work to refine our raw talent. The following YouTube video is a fun step by step reminder of the simple ways we can assure our gifts aren’t wasted. Though the focus is on writing, the principles easily translate into other passions and dreams.
So take a few minutes and sharpen your skills. The world is waiting for you to fulfill your destiny, and you only get one spin on this earth to do it. Stay tuned for this week’s Fresh Friday post — where we’ll talk about finding the energy to do what you want and need to do.
