The video below is something I could almost have recorded. I had no idea my marital story was so similar to Miss Kay Robertson’s, of Duck Dynasty fame. Now there are differences between our tales — but not that many. If anyone wonders if God is still in the miracle business, especially in regard to marriage, then you will not want to miss this YouTube.
And if you want a personal testimony, well then, let’s talk. Because I too am second. It’s so funny that this video series would be named I Am Second, because at one point, I realized I had placed my husband on God’s throne. When God removed him through a series of heart-rendering events, I said to my man, “I love you, but you are no longer first in my life, Jesus Christ is. You are second.”
It stunned my husband at first, but now, it’s an insider’s laugh we share, except we aren’t joking. We are both second. Jesus Christ is first, and neither of us would have it any other way. That’s why we are genuinely happy.
If your marriage is in crisis, I won’t spout off a list of things you need to do, it’s your relationship and your decision, but…
I will tell you this; consider giving yourself permission not to give up. At least not until you’ve given God full opportunity to step in and transform your problem into a miracle. Have you asked him to do that? Every marriage I know of goes through a period where you don’t think you can go on, or you simply don’t want to. Tough it out — the outcome is worth your temporary struggles. I promise.
Have you given yourself the okay to love as if you’d never been hurt? Take the risk and there’s a good chance you’ll gain an unimaginable reward? Luke 7 tells two stories, and the core takeaway message in both is that those who are forgiven much, love much. I have found this to be very true.
Your marriage is worth fighting to for — but you need to fight to win. There will always be something or someone who tries to convince you it’s time to give up on your mate, but when God leads the charge against any enemy that comes against you, miraculous things can happen.
It takes more than two to make a marriage work, it takes three. God, my spouse, and me.
