How would you like to get a little insider help from a personal productivity expert, and some of the most influential names today? If celebrities aren’t your bag, maybe you’d rather know what the ordinary man or woman does to motivate themselves to action, inspired through purposeful and productive living. What if you could listen to a podcast that offers the chance to hear what both kinds of people say?

If like me your interested, then you’d love to talk with Erik J. Fisher. And recently, Darren and I were thrilled with the chance to pick his brain on Engaging Life and Leadership. (Click the Podcasts tab and listen to episode #25.)
By day, Erik Fisher is the Social Media Manager at Indiana’s Wesleyan University. He’s also a regular correspondent on The Podcast Answer Man with Cliff Ravenscraft. On his own program, Beyond the To Do List, Erik J. Fisher talks with people about their perspectives on personal productivity. His guests, varying from friends to personal heroes, discuss how they manage their time, prioritize their tasks, and take steps to avoid burnout.
According to Erik, “The great thing about most people you’ll hear on this show is that they became successful by failing to be good in some key areas. We’re going to hear about some of those struggles, as well as how they overcame them, and even some of what they struggle with today.
Hopefully, hearing how they messed up and learned from it, what they are doing right now, and even what they struggle with today, will help you in your journey to know you’re not alone.”
With the tables turned, and Erik as the one answering questions, versus asking them, Darren and I gleaned his perspectives on setting goals, New Year’s resolutions, and establishing a One Word focus.
Darren was particularly interested in Erik’s quote, “The biggest advantage to productivity is self-improvement.”
I said, “I’d add peace of mind as an advantage to productivity.” And Erik agreed.
Erik shared his latest findings on Facebook changes, and the shift in social media from marketing or information-based platforms, back to connecting. Most of us probably prefer personal interaction, versus being sold to. What do you think about the subject?
In early January, Erik will speak at the NMX Live media expo in Las Vegas. Alongside podcast greats such as Michael Hyatt, Pat Flynn, Mignon Fogarty, (the Grammar Girl’s Quick and Dirty Tips), and Amy Porterfield, among others. I was excited to learn if you can’t be there, buying a Virtual Ticket so you can listen many times over to the great wisdom offered is an option.
Erik’s book, Beyond the To Do List Goals will be released in its made-over form early in 2014. Available through Amazon for Kindle download on iPad, iPhone, Android, you get an audiobook version free. (We HIGHLY recommend this easy and helpful read.)
In closing, Erik reminded us, “Think about what’s making you uncomfortable right now. What small changes could you make that would transform your life significantly? Don’t be afraid to pull yourself out of the rut, and do something different.”
Sounds like a great way to start the new year. Are you ready to do something beyond your to do list and get out of the rut?

Mark 4:20 (NIV)
Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown.”
As Darren and Anita travel the country speaking on leadership and effective life skills, they practice Erik’s Beyond the To-Do List Philosophy. If you don’t dare, nothing will be different.
