I broached the subject of the Ashley Madison scandal in my private Facebook group, Fresh Faith Inspirations. A friend asked. “How do we find those couples to tell them it doesn’t have to be over?”
Her question pierced me like an arrow. I thought about the Ashley Madison subscribers and their spouses, and what they’re going through right now. I wondered if they realize there is hope.
This is one of my heart messages, as my marriage has survived adultery, and God has restored what was nearly destroyed. I know what it feels like to have everything you believed in ripped away in seconds. There’s no way to describe it. Toss every way you think you’ll react out of the window.
I also know what it’s like to walk out the hard road of forgiveness. Talking about it cannot compare to living it out on a daily basis, when your mind questions and your heart fears. I know from experience this truth, “Those who are forgiven much, love much.”
If I could sit down with the Ashley Madison Subscribers and their Spouses, this is the message I’d like to share:
Thousands of people are going through this right now. How do we reach those in need of hope, encouragement, and the steps that take you away from the sin and into the arms of a forgiving God? How do we show a wounded spouse that Jesus is the perfect mate? How do we let them know He can create miracles in our relationships when we let Him?
We start by sharing our authentic messages with the hurting. We begin by letting our stories serve as a warning flag to those toying with temptation, before justice is required.
We all make mistakes. But as I’ve shared before, restoration is possible. Don’t give up. Divorce or death are not the only answers. Healing can occur, if you do your part.
And a final caution, if you are tempted to cross a line, please don’t risk your reputation, your loved ones, and everything you hold as important. Don’t fall prey to arrogance that says, “I won’t get caught.”
The fact is, we don’t keep secrets — secrets keep us. The truth is what sets us free. It is possible to get through what you can’t get over…where pain-filled people laugh yet again. I know first-hand.
